Dance School SEO Case Study
From 900 monthly visitors to 5,300 in 6 months
Project Overview
Our client operates a dance school offering classes in ballet, hip-hop, and contemporary for children and teens, along with adult classes in the evenings. Enrollment traditionally spiked around the start of each school year and after New Year’s, driven mostly by returning families and word-of-mouth referrals. Outside those windows, new enrollment inquiries were sparse, and the website itself rarely appeared for parents searching for dance classes in the area. The goal of the SEO project was to build consistent visibility for class-specific and age-specific searches, smoothing out enrollment gaps between the school’s two seasonal peaks.
From the Client
“Enrollment always spiked at the same two times a year and then went quiet. We knew parents were searching for dance classes for their kids year-round, but our site just wasn’t showing up when they looked, so we were missing that in-between traffic entirely.”
The Challenge
The client’s site had 9 pages with class information split across PDFs and a single “Programs” page, making it hard for both parents and search engines to find specifics on age groups or class times. Only 6 keywords ranked in the top 100, none in the top 50. Domain Authority was 7, with 9 backlinks, mostly from local school partnership pages. Google Business Profile had 14 reviews against a leading competitor’s 90+. Two larger studios with dedicated pages for each class type and age group consistently outranked them for searches like “ballet classes for kids [city].”
The Results
- Organic Traffic: 900 → 5,300 monthly visitors (5.9x increase)
- Keyword Rankings: 6 keywords in top 100 → 44 keywords in top 10, including first-page rankings for “ballet classes for kids [city]” and “adult dance classes near me”
- Leads from Organic Traffic: 3 enrollment inquiries/month → 21 enrollment inquiries/month
- Domain Authority: 7 → 18
- High-Quality Backlinks: 9 → 36 (from school partnerships, youth sports organizations, and local community sites)
The Solution
We built dedicated pages for each class type and age group — kids ballet, teen hip-hop, adult contemporary — replacing the single generic programs page with content parents could actually search for and find directly.
We ran a structured review generation campaign alongside full Google Business Profile optimization, closing the review gap with the leading competitor and improving visibility in local map results for class-specific searches.
We built local backlinks through partnerships with elementary schools, youth sports leagues, and community event sponsorships, strengthening the school’s local relevance beyond its existing single school partnership link.
Search Engine Optimization Journey
The first six weeks focused on class-specific page builds and Google Business Profile optimization, with local visibility improving before broader traffic gains showed up. By month 2, individual class pages began ranking for age- and style-specific searches, generating the first off-season inquiries. Months 3–6 saw steady growth as reviews and local backlinks accumulated, with the school reaching page one for most core class searches and organic inquiries continuing to come in between the traditional enrollment peaks rather than disappearing entirely.
Client Investment & ROI
The client invested $400 per month in our SEO services, totaling $2,400 over 6 months. During this period, the school enrolled 26 additional students directly attributed to organic search inquiries, at an average tuition value of $95 per month across a typical 9-month school year term.
ROI Breakdown:
- SEO Investment: $2,400 (6 months)
- Additional Enrollment Inquiries from Organic Traffic: 21/month by month 6 (approximately 78 total over the campaign)
- New Students Enrolled from Organic Leads: 26
- Estimated Term Revenue Attributed (9-month term): $22,230
- Return on Investment: 9.3x
Key Insight: For seasonal enrollment businesses, organic search fills the gap between peak sign-up periods, turning what used to be dead months into a steady trickle of new families discovering the school year-round.
