LLM SEO Case Study

From 2,100 monthly visitors to 9,800 in 6 months

Project Overview

The client is a B2B SaaS platform operating in the AI and SEO space, offering tools used by marketers and content teams. The primary goal of this project was to increase visibility not only in Google’s traditional SERPs, but also inside LLM-powered answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. The focus was on making the brand’s content discoverable, quotable, and contextually retrievable by large language models.

From the Client

“We were ranking for some keywords, but our brand wasn’t showing up in AI answers or cited by tools like ChatGPT or Perplexity. We wanted our content to be referenced by LLMs, not just indexed by Google. The expectation was clear authority, not surface-level SEO tactics.”

The Challenge

Despite publishing content regularly, the website struggled to gain visibility within large language models such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. While pages were keyword-optimized for traditional SEO, they were not structured in a way that supported AI interpretation, semantic understanding, or answer-based retrieval.

The content did not effectively address conversational search queries or multi-intent questions commonly used in AI-driven search experiences. Entity definitions were unclear, contextual signals were weak, and pages were rarely selected or cited in AI-generated answers or Google AI Overviews.

Additionally, core topics like LLM SEO, AI search optimization, and generative engine optimization operated in highly competitive spaces. Existing backlinks lacked topical relevance and authority depth, limiting the trust signals and expertise validation that AI systems rely on when selecting sources.

The Results

Organic Traffic: Increased from 2,100 to 9,800 monthly sessions (+367%)

Keyword Rankings:

  • 18 keywords in top 3

  • 46 keywords in top 10

  • Strong visibility for terms related to LLM SEO and AI search

Leads from Organic Traffic: Increased from 14/month to 52/month

Domain Authority: Improved from 21 to 34

High-Quality Backlinks: 42 new referring domains (DA 40+) from AI, SaaS, and SEO publications

LLM Visibility Signals:

  • Brand cited in Perplexity AI responses

  • Content referenced in ChatGPT and Claude conversational answers

  • Pages surfaced in Google AI Overviews for informational queries

The Solution

We rebuilt content using LLM-first SEO principles, focusing on semantic clarity, entity relationships, and conversational query coverage so large language models could easily interpret and retrieve answers.

Content was rewritten to align with how ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude generate responses, using structured explanations, concise definitions, and factual examples instead of keyword stuffing.

A topical authority framework was implemented, supported by high-trust backlinks and internal linking, reinforcing signals that LLMs use to assess expertise, credibility, and citation-worthiness.

Search Engine Optimization Journey

The SEO journey shifted from traditional ranking tactics to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). We analyzed how AI models source information, structured content to answer multi-turn questions, and improved entity recognition using schema and contextual linking. Performance tracking included rankings, traffic, lead attribution, and LLM appearance monitoring. Over time, content began appearing consistently in AI summaries, improving both brand authority and assisted conversions.

Client Investment & ROI

The client invested $250 per month, totaling $1,500 over 6 months. This investment resulted in sustained organic growth and increased AI-driven brand exposure, generating consistent inbound leads influenced by both search engines and LLM-based discovery.

ROI Breakdown

  • SEO Investment: $1,500 (6 months)

  • Additional Organic Leads: ~228

  • Estimated ROI: ~3.2x based on average lead value

Key Insight:
LLM-focused SEO builds durable visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and AI Overviews, reducing dependence on paid ads while positioning the brand as a trusted source within AI-generated answers—not just search results.
